Named in honour of Masataka Taketsuru, the founding father of Japanese whisky, this exceptional 17-year-old pure malt embodies his pioneering spirit and dedication to craftsmanship.
Whisky critic Jim Murray praised the expression, stating: "The strength of Nikka Taketsuru Pure Malt 17 Years Old lies in the way the subtle aroma of peat builds up over time." With a mellow, well-rounded nose and palate, it delivers a refined balance of complexity and elegance that continues to impress both connoisseurs and newcomers alike.
The legacy began in 1918 when a determined young man, Masataka Taketsuru, journeyed alone to Scotland to unlock the secrets of whisky making. Studying chemistry at the University of Glasgow and apprenticing at three Scottish distilleries, Taketsuru immersed himself in traditional techniques. His detailed notes from this formative period later served as Japan's first whisky production guide, laying the foundation for what would become Nikka Whisky.
